Earth Day! A day to celebrate our home and a vital reminder that we need to take care of it. Therefore I wanted to include some fun videos and a photo that demonstrate this. Below is a trailer to our green travel show Left Turn- this is where we travel in a different direction- and a simple music video with shots of random beautiful things in this world.

Music Video – Random images – Cold Play

This is a photo of one of my favorite places, Independence Pass. It is a long winding road that takes you to Aspen and as we all know… It is sooooooo beautiful. I think this place is one of many clear reminders of how beautiful our world is and why we want to take care of it…

A few easy ways to make a difference (that also can save $):

Unplug any chargers while not in use
Keep your thermostat just a few degrees cooler than usual
Walk or ride your bike instead of a drive somewhere close, or carpool
Keep electronics out of the trash
Use biodegradable poop bags for your pets, not plastic
Plant a tree, it’s fun, plus it adds value to your home
Choose wind energy option (a renewable energy source) on your utility bill
Support “Green” businesses… i.e. buy New Belgium beer

It’s nice to save money, especially in these hard economic times. This time in our history gives us the true test asking how do we spend our money and time? Well, I love to be part of small adventures as often as possible. This usually requires something new, a little adventure, photos for documentation of course, and very low cost or even better… free activities. My example is visiting Pier 39 in San Francisco. Although it is where all the tourists seem to go, I still love it. I can sit and watch those crazy sea lions fight for the same spot on a raft for hours. Bring a nalgene bottle filled with a beverage of your choice, find a good spot, and watch the sea lions. The bottom photo illustrates the best how the sea lions all want the same spot on the floating dock.

The Little Things

Thinking about what makes us happy, what about Owen? Our puppy golden retriever finds almost everything wonderful in life. You should see him on a walk. It’s impossible to get down one short street before he spots water rushing out of a gutter and finds the need to drink and play in it. From mounds of sand, kids playing baseball, to even smelling other dogs’ poop, Owen really can find happiness out of every walk. Maybe he is a good teacher.

The Beginning

This is my first post and well, my first blog… or are they the same thing? I never thought I would start blogging, and about what?
So I decided to create a blog that is dedicated to the little things in life that inspire and make us happy… that is worth documenting in photography and/or video. Everyone is welcome to contribute.

I had a radio show in college for one semester called The Happy Show, so in a sense this is stemmed off of that show. We would ask people on the University of Southern California’s campus, “What music makes you smile?” Might sound cheesy, but whatever.

So, what in life makes you smile that you want to have documented & shared?

I’ll start. Here are a few images that demonstrate the little things that are easy to miss- that I love.

Mom’s tomato soup, road trips, cup cakes, campfires on warm nights, Hanging Lake, & memories of my Grandparents.
